Rethinking The Three Musketeers Assignment

Okay, so. I might regret assigning The Three Musketeers to my boys. It's not innocent by any means, and I have to read it myself from cover to cover first, rather than with the boys. Just wanted to warn you, lest you think the classics are all kids books. It might end up being fine, but I'm not sure after reading some reviews.

I read through the list of books you posted the other day. 'Brave New World' is (in my opinion) definitely not suitable for children. It's full of sex references, even in relation to children. Just thought you might like to know. I gave up listening to it because I was disgusted. I'm not saying it's not a worthwhile book because I think it was making a point, a comment on society, but that's for an adult to decide, in my opinion. Not that you have to agree with my opinion!

Yes, I was assigned it in high school. Disturbing, for sure. I am working hard in my heart and brain to decide which book to give them right now. They still have their regular curriculum but I want to supplement it.

Catcher in the Rye might be on their too, and it is nasty as well. I read that the profanity is terrible and it is often censored.
